A DECADE OF DEDICATED SERVICE: REV. DR. BAMIDELE OLUWOLE

Rev. Dr and Rev. Mrs Dele Oluwole

October 17, 2024 was a day of deep gratitude, standing ovations, and heartfelt tributes as Rev. Dr. David Bamidele Oluwole, the outgoing Registrar of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso, was honored at an appreciation service. Dr. Oluwole recently completed a decade of service in the office, from September 2014 to 2024.

The service, presided over by the Deputy President of Academics, Prof. Sayo Oladejo, was attended by students, faculty, and guests from both within and outside Ogbomoso. Held at 10 am in the NBTS Alumni Multipurpose Hall, the event featured a lively praise and worship session, with ministration from the NBTS Choral Ensemble, prayers, gifts sharing and a book launch.

The scripture reading was taken from 1 Corinthians 9:7-14, after which the guest minister, Rev. Prof. Emiola Nihinlola, delivered a message on “The Rights of a Christian Worker.” He urged Christian workers to seek their rights with humility rather than through conflict and reminded the celebrant, along with others, that God is faithful and will never forget their labour. Prof. Nihinlola encouraged Dr. Oluwole to remain thankful for all that God had done in his life and to continually express genuine gratitude for the journey so far.

A special part of the event was the launch of a book/festschrift in Dr. Oluwole’s honor. The book, Theological Education Administration: Issues and Dynamics, was reviewed by Dr. Felix Ajedokun, with the official launch conducted by Rev. Taiwo Opajobi. Numerous dignitaries, staff members, and institutions participated in launching the book.

During the service, gifts were presented to Dr. Oluwole by faculty, students, and guests, in a generous display of appreciation for his years of service. In their vote of thanks, Dr. Oluwole and his wife gave all the glory to God. Dr. Oluwole reflected on his administrative journey, describing it as an “accident of providence,” one in which he relied on God’s grace to carry him through. He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Seminary, the Governing Council, churches, all well-wishers, and to those who contributed to the book’s success. He concluded by thanking his family, particularly his wife and daughter, for their continuous support and numerous sacrifices.

The service concluded with the hymn “God Be with You Till We Meet Again” and a closing prayer led by Pastor Mrs. Victoria Akanji, representing the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention. As Rev. Dr. David Bamidele Oluwole moves on to new responsibilities, the lasting impact of his service will continue to be felt by all.
