For the first time in sixty-four years of the historical annual event; a special programme was organized for the wards (children and teenagers) of ministers attending the Ministers’ Conference at NBTS Ogbomoso. Planned by the Ministers’ Conference Organizing Committee and led by student pastors from the Faculty of Education, the programme aimed at helping the children not only understand God’s call in relation to their parents’ ministry but also to recognize His call in their own lives, particularly the call to salvation. The programme held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 and aligned with the Conference theme. The title of the programme was “The Gospel Minister and His Call: Understanding God’s Purpose and Call.” It ran from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, featuring activities like Bible story videos, group discussions, skits, and games.
The children and teenagers were divided into three groups to ensure that each session was both engaging and age-appropriate. The youngest group, ages four to six (4 to 6), enjoyed simple Bible stories like Samuel’s call, along with fun games and videos that introduced basic spiritual lessons in an engaging way. The seven-to-twelve-year-olds (7 to 12-year-olds) participated in interactive sessions, acted out Bible stories like the call of Jonah and Abraham; and took part in group games and discussions to help them connect the lessons to their own lives. The teenagers, aged 13 to 18, engaged in deeper discussions about Bible characters called by God, alongside games that tested their Bible knowledge and encouraged reflection on how God’s call applies to them personally.
The day began with a general opening session which included icebreakers to introduce the theme in a fun, relaxed way to everyone. Afterwards, the children moved to their respective classes where they engaged in age-specific activities, including singing and dancing, watching Bible story videos featuring characters like Samuel, Moses, Jonah, and Abraham, participating in group discussions, playing fun games; engaging in sword drills, and joining in prayer. During the break, the children enjoyed snacks and refreshments, giving them a chance to rest, play and socialize.
About one hundred (100) children attended the programme, and the feedback was positive as the programme ended with a reflection session, where each group shared what they had learned about God’s call and discussed how they could apply it in their daily lives. Some teenagers admitted they were either compelled to attend or attended out of curiosity or boredom, but by the end of the programme, most were pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed the day. Many said they would love to attend more events like this in the future.
The Ministers’ children and teens programme was a huge success. It gave the children of ministers a unique and enjoyable experience. It helped them to understand God’s call and think about how it applies to their own lives. The resounding success of the programme has given all parties involved something more to look forward to in future editions of NBTS Ministers’ Conference.
