REVIVAL DAY TWO – JESUS AND THE WILL OF GOD

Rev. Dr. Diran Adeleke Ministering

After a long day in class and office work on November 6, 2024; staff, students and faculty members gathered in the NBTS Multipurpose Hall with joy and expectation. The gathering was for Day Two of the First Semester Annual Revival for 2024/2025 Academic Session.

With Rev. Prof. Olusayo Oladejo presiding over the session; at exactly 5pm, Rev Dr Oluwakemi Amuda called the congregation to worship, followed by a prayer of invocation led by Rev. Prof. Olusola Ayo-Obiremi. The praise team then led in heartfelt worship. The Student Body President, Rev Akusa Gajere, who read the scripture, read from Matthew 6:9-10 and Hebrews 10:7-10.

In continuation of the message delivered the day before; the revival guest minister in person of Rev Dr Diran Adeleke, delivered God’s message from Matthew 6:9-10. The message title was “Jesus and the Will of God.” Christianity is a kingdom, not a democracy, he said. The will of God is within a kingdom and there is one King, who is God. Thus, His Word is law. In specific messages of Jesus, He made mention of the will of God, and he sought after it.

The minister implored all seminarians not to be in a hurry, because there is a time for their manifestation. In his words, he said, “If God has sent you to the seminary, stay and do God’s will. Ministry will wait for you.” Other key points from the message are highlighted below.

1) Jesus placed a very high priority on God’s will (John 4:34).

2) Jesus was submissive to God’s will. God’s will may not be palatable at the initial stage but we must obey; God will not compromise His will.

3) Jesus had a clear understanding of God’s will (John 6:35). He knew and understood what the will of God constituted.

It was the will of God for Jesus to die; It was God’s will for Him to give eternal life to all who believe. It is God’s will that He must not reject anyone who comes to Him; He should not lose anyone of them spiritually but bring them back to life now and on the last day.

4) Jesus was committed to doing God’s will (Luke 2:49).

5) Jesus taught people to know and to do God’s will (Matthew 12:50). We must teach people to know and do God’s will also.

6) Jesus knew and taught people that it is God’s will for him to suffer; the will of God will also be tested in our lives.

Dr Adeleke charged attendees that as they go according to the will of God, they will arrive. The call to salvation, the call to ministry is a matter of life and death. Christians should not be too careful about our lives amidst the will of God, he warned (Psalm 105:19). Victory is sure if we endure to the end (James 1:12, 1 Peter 1:6-7). Follow in His steps; the journey may be long but you will get there, he encouraged (Psalm 143:10). The congregation was led to pray ‘Teach me to do your will, for You are my God. May Your good Spirit lead me on level ground; let my will be lost in Yours’. Rev Dr Victoria Ayano led in singing from Baptist Hymnal 355 (1956 edition) “Have Thine Own Way Lord.”
