A CELEBRATION OF LIFE AND SCHOLARSHIP

The 36th International Conference of National Association for Biblical Studies (NABIS) was held in honour of the patriarch of the Department of Biblical Studies, Rev. Dr S. Ola FADEJI at the NBTS chapel between 15th and 18th July, 2025. The theme of the conference was “Biblical Studies and Suffering in Africa”. The Seminary, through the Department of Biblical Studies welcomed the presence of Biblical scholars across Nigeria. The conference witnessed both online and onsite participation.

The Opening Ceremony and posthumous award service was attended by dignitaries from the society. Professors from various fields of study, the Imperial Majesty, the Soun of Ogbomoso land was ably represented by His Royal Highness, Oba Joseph Oyelola Oyedele (Are Alasa of Ogbomoso) and Oba Sunday Oyeyiola (Iba Abogunde of Ogbomoso). The family of Rev. Dr S. Ola Fadeji was duly represented by his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Fadeji, children (represented by Prof. Akin OlaOlorun, Dr Mike Ayo-Obiremi and Prof. Olusola Ayo-Obiremi), mentees (represented by Rev. Dr Samuel A. K. Olaleye), family friends (Mr and Dcns Ogunronbi and others) and well-wishers. The welcome address was given by the President of the Seminary, Prof. S. Ola Ayankeye.

Six commissioned papers focusing on suffering motif from both Old and New Testaments were presented. The commission paper presenters were: Prof. Godwin Nyijime Toryough, Prof. Olusayo Oladejo, Prof. Emmanuel Ordue Usue, Prof. Igbakua Lorjaah, Dr Ochenia Faith Opade, and Dr Gesila Nneka Uzukwu. A total number of 58 articles were presented during the conference, 32 of which were presented onsite. The presenters gave well researched insights into the paper presented and there were robust discussions by the participants.

Financial donations were made to NABIS by the family of Baba Fadeji, the Seminary, Churches and individuals to aid in the publication of the conference proceedings. The participants who were from various denominations praised the seminary for maintaining a serene environment that prioritized the preservation of nature.
