The maiden edition of the African Homiletics Society Conference was held at the Conference Centre of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria, from May 15-18, 2023. The theme of the Conference was Biblical Preaching and African Realities. It had total registered participants of 91, both physical and online. Among the main speakers were Dr. David Gambo (USA), Dr. Cas Wepener (South Africa), Dr. Mark Aidoo (Ghana), and Dr. Martin Munyao (Kenya). From Nigeria, we had the distinguished presence of Prof Emiola Nihinlola, Prof Emmanuel Oyemomi, Dr. Nicodemus Pele, Dr. Ezekiel Ajibade, and Dr. Kehinde Olusanya. The major activities and sessions in the Conference included one Keynote Address, three Devotions, three Commissioned Papers, five Narrative Preaching Workshops and 17 academic paper presentations on the Conference’s theme. The high point of the Conference was the official inauguration of the African Homiletics Society by Dr. Kristopher Barnett, the President of the Evangelical Homiletics Society, USA. We give thanks to God for such a successful maiden conference and the tremendous support we received from the leadership and community of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, which hosted us, and the participants who represented homileticians from about 20 theological institutions and churches, participating from eight different African countries.
